Crochet Craziness

Well the crocheting has gone slightly bonkers! Ever since we got married and I made 51 little dragons as favours for our guests, demand for the little guys has gone through the roof, with friends all over the place asking for one of their own.

I’ve made another bride and groom for an upcoming wedding, one for a new baby boy, four went off to Wales and one even flew to Sweden!

Perhaps my favourite to date though, was the giant one I made – I really didn’t want to part with him!

But it’s not just dragons that I’m keeping busy with nowadays. I’ve really become hooked – no pun intended – by crochet. I spend hours looking at patterns and ideas I could make, just wondering who I could make them for.

My best friend, who’s a massive Harry Potter fan, decided she would like a Niffler from Fantastic Beasts for her birthday. So, I found a pattern and set about creating him. I found the perfect wool too in Poundland – black with just a shimmer of sparkle. He had his own pouch for hiding away his treasures.

Then, for my brother-in-law’s birthday, I discovered this Simon’s Cat pattern and I just had to have a go. I was really pleased with how it turned out, although the tail did look rude when I was making it!

This little bat was a tad odd, but fun to make.

And then for Mother’s Day, I made this snowman wreath for my snowman-obsessed Mum. Making the cover for the wreath itself took forever, but it was very satisfying when I finally got it done and Mum just loves it, so I expect to see it in pride of place this Christmas.

I’m not joking when I say I spend hours looking at ideas and so far, all of my creations have been thanks to pattern discoveries I’ve made on Pinterest and I think I’ve only paid for one through Etsy so far. So many clever people are very kind to share their patterns online for us all to enjoy.

I’m already planning my next creation – I’ve seen a pattern for a unicorn like the one in Despicable Me! I can’t wait!

Crocheting Going Well!!

Well, a month ago, I picked up a crochet hook for the first time in my life, as I prepared to make decorations for our wedding later this year.

As we know, the initial teddy bear attempt wasn’t great!

However, I wasn’t put off and rather than just keep practicing, I jumped straight in at the deep end and got on with dragons! I did inspire myself with some shiny new tools.

I’m pleased to say, they’re turning out pretty well and I’ve already made three!

Learning To Crochet

I’ve decided it’s time for me to learn a new skill and hobby – crocheting.

My great-aunt used to be a dab hand at crochet and made all kinds of things when I was little. Unfortunately, I was only 8 when she died and hadn’t shown any interest in learning before she passed away.

I’ve been trying to learn for a week now. And whilst I’ve had a few mishaps along the way…

….I seem to be able to follow a basic pattern for bunting and hearts.

Now, I’m trying to get my head around crocheting in the round, but that’s proving a little more tricky.

I have my sights set on a much bigger project, which I’m hoping I can complete for our wedding later this year.

To help me practice, I’m going to head back to the shop later to get some different sized hooks and yarn, along with a stitch marker and row counter. If only Auntie Babs could see me now – I’d like to think she’d be pleased that I’m following in her footsteps a little bit.
